Items collected include: CFL bulbs, unwanted prescription, over-the-counter medicines and supplements (people and pet), household cleaners, gasoline, garden chemicals, pesticides, oil-based paints (NO LATEX) and varnishes, as well as other household chemicals.   5. Youth Fishing Derby with IDNR

    Enjoy a day of fishing with family, food, and prizes! The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and Zion Park District welcomed all ages and skill levels to attend this FREE family-friendly event. During this fun day, prizes will be awarded to youth by age group while everyone enjoys the free food prepared by C&J Gourmet Sandwiches. Fishing poles will be available to those in need, and ALL youth participants will have an opportunity to win raffle prizes and other giveaways. Lake County Health Department will be on-site with free Covid-19 vaccines for those ages12+ years, and thanks to 7-Eleven Franchise Owner Saeed Rahman, free rapid Covid-19 rapid tests, hand sanitizers and masks will be available as well!     The Lake County Suicide Prevention Task Force 9th Annual 5K Walk for Awareness and Suicide Prevention will virtual to make participants stay safe while supporting this cause. Walk wherever you feel comfortable, whether that is in your local downtown, forest preserve, neighborhood or even on your treadmill! They will host a Facebook Live event on Saturday the 25th, with a small group of task force members starting at 9am. Join them online during this live event, but feel free to walk when is best for you! Take as many videos and photos and share them to let Lake County know We Are All In This Together! Together we can all educate and support ourselves, loved ones, the community and fight to end the STIGMA! There will be a t-shirt event on Saturday the 18th from 9am -1pm at Lake County Health Department, 3010 Grand Ave. Drive thru and pick up your walk shirts and resource bags. T-shirts are limited in sizes.

  8. 26th Annual Oakwood Cemetery Walk - Stories of the Waukegan Carnegie Library

    Experience many stories relating to the Historic Waukegan Carnegie Library including the story of its construction, the early years prior to the library, as well as the years while it was open. The Oakwood Cemetery Walk is an annual “living history” event showcasing the rich history of Waukegan using costumed actors to portray local historic figures with connections to the cemetery and Waukegan. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Jack Benny Center for the Arts located at 39 Jack Benny Drive in Bowen Park, the Belvidere Rec Center at 412 S. Lewis Avenue in Rose Park, the Field House at 800 Baldwin Avenue in Hinkston Park and online. Tours: Each tour will run approximately 1.5 hours and will include walking on uneven ground. The last tour will start at 2:45pm. The Cemetery Walk is held rain or shine.
