Notice - Why am I receiving a notice?

All notices sent from the Code Compliance Department have the officer phone number and contact information if you have any questions.

Code Compliance

1. Who is my code compliance officer?: Assigned areas change frequently. Please contact 847-625-6860 with any concerns or questions for code staff to assist you.

2. Garbage Cans - When can I have my Garbage cans on the parkway?: Garbage cans must be placed on the parkway no earlier than 5 pm on the day before your garbage pick up date. All garbage must be removed from the parkway no later than 6 pm on the day on the of service. Garbage cans can NOT be stored in any front yard and must be stored on the side or rear of your property.

3. Tall Grass - When is my lawn in violation?: All premises and exterior property shall be maintained free from weeds or plant growth in excess of eight (8) inches.

4. Yard Waste - How do I dispose of yard waste?: Yard waste will be picked up in 32-gallon containers marked YARD WASTE or brown paper yard waste bags from March 15 - December 15. Bags and stickers can be purchased at Ace Hardware, Jewel Osco, Walgreens and Super Fresh. Full year subscriptions can be purchased from Waste Management 847-623-3870.

5. Bulk Garbage - How do I get furniture/rolled carpet removed?: Bulk furniture and carpet items are limited to 1 item, less than 50 lbs each, per service day. Carpet must be cut, rolled, and tied with string or duct tape in sections of less than six (6) feet.

6. Seasonal Decorations - How long can I keep seasonal decorations displayed?: Seasonal decorations, including items of a primarily decorative natures associated with national local or religious holidays are to be removed within 30 days after the holiday.

7. Garbage Pickup - How do I schedule an additional garbage pick up?: Additional trash must be scheduled for an extra pick-up by calling Waste Management at 847-623-3870.

8. Garbage Cans - How do I get replacement cans?: Contact Waste Management at 847-623-3870.

9. Electronics - How do I dispose electronics?: TVs or any electronic items can be disposed of at Public Works, 1700 N McAree Rd, Waukegan, IL 60085, Monday - Friday, 8am to 3pm with a valid Waukegan resident ID. Questions? Call 847-360-0944

10. Tires - How can I dispose of tires?: A maximum of four (4) tires (without rims) can be disposed of at Public Works, 1700 N McAree Rd, Waukegan, IL 60085 between the hours of 8am to 3pm, Monday - Friday, with a valid Waukegan resident ID. Questions? Call 847-360-0944

12. Citation - Do I have to attend my hearing date?: All respondents MUST APPEAR to your scheduled hearing date. If you are not able to attend on that day a petition for continuance must be filled with the clerk. If you have missed your hearing date, you have 21 days to file a petition to set aside with the clerk to obtain another hearing. Being in compliance on your hearing date is not an exception. Any respondent not present at the hearing will receive a default judgement and maximum fine. Citations can be issued every day a property remains in violation.
