Waukegan Mayor Ann B. Taylor

From the Desk of

Mayor Ann B. Taylor

It’s hard to believe we are heading quickly into autumn. Our students are back in school; before you know it, the trees will begin to change, and the leaves will fall. This last summer was full of summer celebrations, community events, and local block parties. It is my sincere hope that you were able to participate in all that Waukegan offers.

I am especially proud of our community’s young people who stayed engaged in the community, such as those who worked with the city’s public works crews to repaint our fire hydrants. If you missed the WGN story about this program, you can click here to view it.

As the temperatures cool down and we prepare for fall, I want to ensure that you know all the opportunities the city offers to dispose of unneeded items and waste, including yard waste, old electronics, and medications. Please see the graphics below for more information, and if you have any questions, you can always contact Waukegan Public Works at (847) 360-0944.

I want to highlight a couple of community events this month. All Waukeganites and our neighbors are invited to ArtWauk on September 16 and Fiesta Sin Frontera. The next day, Sunday, September 17, the City of Waukegan is home to two special parades; the 2023 Waukegan Parade is from 10 am to noon on Washington Street, and the Fiestas Patrias Parade will follow immediately, kicking off at 12:30 and ending at 2:30. I encourage you all to join me and our City’s Alderpersons as we proudly celebrate Waukegan’s culture heritage and diversity.

Sincerely,
Waukegan Mayor Ann Taylor
