September means that Fall is just around the corner, but there are still plenty of great family-friendly activities, fun events and cultural attractions to enjoy during the final weeks of Summer 2023.
The FREE Yoga in the Stiner Pavilion at the Waukegan Municipal Beach on Saturday mornings at 8am has been extended through September by popular demand.
The Puerto Rican Society of Waukegan is hosting their annual Labor Day Music and Food Festival on Saturday, September 2 and Sunday, September 3 from 12 Noon to 12 Midnight at their club in Downtown Waukegan at 150 S. Sheridan Rd.
The 4th Annual One Love Music Festival returns to Green Town on the Rocks at the Waukegan Harbor for this year's free Reggae concerts starting at 3pm. Doors open at 11am.
The Genesee Theatre's calendar continues to fill up with world-class entertainment in their 2023/2024 Season. County music star, Gary Allan, will appear on September 7, Michael Carbonaro is bringing his mind-blowing magic back to the Genesee on September 8, Grammy® Award-winning country music group, Diamond Rio, makes a stop on September 15, The Hit Men: The Ultimate Rock Concert will take place on September 16, see comedian, Bryan Callen, on September 24, one of the most influential funk groups of the '70s, WAR, performs on September 29, and the irresistible rhythms and melodies from the Gipsy Kings featuring Nicolas Reyes rounds out the month on September 30.
Waukegan Township's annual Walk for Seniors will take place at 9am on Saturday, September 9, in Corrine Rose Park and will also feature a car and bike show.
The Northern Illinois Air Show returns to the Waukegan National Airport on Saturday, September 9. gates open at 9:30am and the air show starts at Noon.
The 28th Annual Oakwood Cemetery Walk is on September 9, and is presented by the Waukegan Park District and the Waukegan History Museum.
The George Bridges 5K Run/Walk is on September 16 at Hinkston Park. Register online at waukeganparks.org/5k.
Celebrate Fiestas Patrias in Waukegan with some great cultural activities, including; Fiesta Sin Fronteras on Saturday, September 16, hosted by Ballet Folkorico Tayahua taking place during the monthly ArtWauk. The 2023 Parade and Festival will start at 10am on Sunday, September 17, on Washington Street and is hosted by Puro Futbol Newspaper. The 2023 Fiestas Patrias Parade will step off at 12:30pm on Washington St. with a festival to follow that is hosted by the Fiestas Patrias Committee.
Support Three Brother's Theatre at their 10th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser at 6pm on Saturday, September 23, at 221 N. Genesee St. The event will feature a Silent Auction, Cocktails, Hors D'oeuvres, Dessert & FUN. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit threebrotherstheatre.com.
The Waukegan Harbor and Green Town on the Rocks are hosting the Harbor Fest & Food Truck Festival on Sunday, September 24, from 12pm to 4pm in the area around Siver Park at 175 S. Harbor Place. The event will feature 10+ food trucks and FREE concerts by the Blues Family Robinson at 12 Noon and the Judson Brown Band at 2pm.
The 4th Annual Waukegan Comedy Jam is on Friday, September 29, and Saturday, September 30, at Three Brothers Theatre at 221 N. Genesee Street in Downtown Waukegan. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at threebrotherstheatre.com.
Mark your calendar for Waukegan's next Clean Sweep Disposal and Dumpster Drop on Saturday, September 30, from 8am to 12pm that will be hosted by Waukegan Public Works and 9th Ward Alderperson, Thomas Hayes. A waste dumpster will be located in the parking lot of the People's Choice Family Fun Center at 2650 Belvidere Road and will feature free disposal of tires (no rims) and electronics. Items NOT accepted: yard waste, liquids, tree trunks, concrete, brick, stone, rocks, hazardous waste, flammable materials, car parts, paint, stain, lacquers, and railroad ties.
The 3rd Annual Wauke-Con Comic Book Convention will be held on Saturday, September 30 through Sunday, October 1, from 12pm to 6pm at Three Brothers Theatre at 221 N. Genesee Street in Downtown Waukegan. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased on the Wauke-Con website.
