From the Desk of
Mayor Ann B. Taylor
School is out, Waukegan Municipal Beach is busy with visitors enjoying our lakefront, and we have tons of great activities for everyone this summer in Waukegan.
On July 2nd, the Waukegan Park District is hosting the American Independence Parade, which runs up Sheridan Road from Franklin Street, traveling north to Bowen Park. The parade is always such a special event for our community to have. As usual, you’ll find plenty of representation from Waukegan businesses, elected officials, non-profits, and all sorts of local organizations. This year the Waukegan Park District named State Senator Adriane Johnson as the official Parade Grand Marshall.
On the 4th of July, please join your neighbors down at the lakefront for fireworks scheduled to blast off at 9:30 pm. Residents and visitors are encouraged to arrive early—you can find great views from the Dockside area, Green Town on the Rocks, the Harbor’s parking lots at the end of Clayton Street, the government pier, and at the beach. Come out and enjoy our professional fireworks show, and remember that amateur fireworks are illegal in Waukegan and Illinois.
And finally, Scoop Waukegan is July 7th and 8th. You can find more information below. Scoop is always such a fun event with classic and custom cars, music, food, and more. You’ll undoubtedly run into your neighbors and friends at this traditional Waukegan event!
On behalf of everyone here at Waukegan City Hall, I wish you and your family a safe and joyous summer. If you come to one of the events highlighted in this e-news issue and see me, please come by and say hello.
Sincerely,
Waukegan Mayor Ann Taylor
