From the Desk of
Mayor Ann B. TaylorApril is such a wonderful month, but we certainly haven’t had an April like this in a long time. With the weather in the 70s and 80s for much of the month, it is starting to feel like summer. One of my favorite things about this time of year is watching our long-dormant flora return to life. These new colors of green throughout the city also remind us that April 15-22 is Earth Week, and we are focusing on investing back into our planet this year. Below you’ll find events the city and partners are hosting to show your civic pride and help invest in Waukegan by helping the community with our spring clean-up. April also hosts numerous celebrations that mean a lot to me personally and our community. Earlier this month we celebrated National Autism Awareness Month at the Waukegan City Council meeting. People with Autism should be celebrated for their neurodiversity and always feel welcome in our community. Find more information on Autism and how to light it up blue during April. April is also National Donate Life Month. In the United States, there are over 100,000 people who are waiting for life-saving organ transplants. Unfortunately, 17 people pass away each day while waiting for an organ transplant. However, the numbers are slowly improving with living donations. Examples of living donation include the donation of a kidney or part of the liver. To learn more about National Donate Life Month or to register to become a donor, visit OrganDonor.gov — you can help save a life. I sincerely hope to see you at one of the events highlighted in this month’s e-newsletter, and please remember to say hello to our hard-working city employees who make so many of these events possible.
