Waukegan Celebrates Black History Month

Waukegan Celebrates Black History Month

A special Black History Month Pop-Up Exhibit presented in partnership with the Waukegan History Museum and the Waukegan Park District will be on display in the lobby of Waukegan City Hall and is viewable Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm until Monday, February 28, 2022. The pop-up exhibit features stories of Waukegan’s African American past, including the Underground Railroad, early pioneers and leaders, the segregated community of Frog Island, and the desegregation of Whittier School. Several other programs and events will be held in the community throughout the month of February. These programs will honor African Americans and their contributions to arts, culture, and local history. More details about the special programming during Black History Month, including registration information, are available on the City of Waukegan's calendar.

Building Department Permit Office Now on First Floor

The Waukegan Building Department has opened up a customer service window on the first floor of Waukegan City Hall and it is open Monday - Friday from 8am - 5pm. The Waukegan Building Department is responsible for the issuance of building permits, sign permits, plan review and construction inspections for residential, commercial, and industrial properties within the City of Waukegan. Building permits are required except for minor repairs, same size replacement windows and doors, painting, and flooring. Services of the Waukegan Building Department can also be accessed 24 hours a day on their web page Waukegan Building Department.

City Sticker Sales Start March 1, 2022

Purchase 2022 stickers online at waukeganil.gov between March 1 - 31 for early bird rate. Ask for them at the service counter of your local supermarket or at most local currency exchanges; additional fees may apply. According to our garbage and waste collection contract, Waukegan residents who want to discard yardwaste and other landscape materials have two options for disposal on their regularly-scheduled garbage collection day. Call 847-623-3870 for more info or visit our Yardwaste Collection page.
