Automatic Meter Reader Installation Program

The City of Waukegan is embarking on a program that will replace about 90% of our water meters and convert to an automatic water meter reading for all of our water meter accounts in 2015 and 2016. This new technology will identify high water usage and potential leaks. New software will also provide customers on-line access to usage information. The meters will automatically transmit data wirelessly and eliminate the need to manually read each meter. This will allow the City to be more efficient and save money by preventing recording errors and provide better customer service to each customer. Please view the informational video below that details the installation process.

Most water customers will receive these new meters at no cost. It could take up to two years to replace all of the water meters in the City's system. The City of Waukegan has awarded a contract to Professional Meters, Inc. (PMI) to perform these water meter replacements. Each customer will receive a postcard notification from PMI once they are working in your area. After receiving this postcard, you will be expected to follow the directions on it, promptly scheduling an appointment and providing access to have your water meter replaced. The City and PMI will work with you to arrange a convenient appointment date and time to have this work done. Please note that the area around your meter should be free and clear on the day of your appointment so the plumber can replace your meter without any problems. Typically, the work takes no more than 30 minutes to complete.
