Message from Fire Chief

Thank you for visiting the Waukegan Fire Department's (WFD's) website. Your Firefighters have bravely and successfully confronted the hazards of our urban environment, and continue to mitigate complex life-safety problems through risk management, operational planning, disciplined deployment, and an aggressive fire attack/rescue philosophy. The hard-working professionals of the WFD are dedicated first and foremost to protecting the quality of life for the citizens and visitors of our community through a multi-dimensional emergency response coupled with the prioritized protection of life, property, and the environment.

We proudly deliver the services of: Fire Suppression, Paramedics, Dive Rescue, Side Scan Sonar, Bomb Squad, Technical Rescue, Airport Firefighting, Hazardous Materials, Wildland Fire, Juvenile Fire-setters, Fire Explorer Post 2101, Fire Prevention, Bike-Medics, Honor Guard, Fire Extinguisher Program, Combat Challenge Team, Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), and Citizen CPR.

The overall mission of the Waukegan Fire Department is to protect lives, property and the environment while maintaining a safe atmosphere for our community. WFD is an innovative and diverse department with over 115 members and 5 fire stations to mitigate our daily challenges.

I believe our greatest asset is our team of personnel who consistently go the extra mile in delivering vital services, with our commitment to stand ready to assist you in your time of need day or night, with compassion, professionalism, respect and dignity.
