Yardwaste Collection

Yard Waste

According to our garbage and waste collection contract, Waukegan residents who want to discard yardwaste and other landscape materials have two options for disposal on their regularly-scheduled garbage collection day.

1) Season Subscription for a flat rate fee which covers the nine month period from March 15th to December 15th and is limited to six (6) 33 gallon containers or "kraft" style bags per week. If the customer places more than six (6) bags then all additional bags must have a sticker affixed. The season subscription is available through Waste Management only. Call 847-623-3870 or 800-796-9696 to register for this service at $143.52 per household. Residents no longer need an annual yard waste sticker to be enrolled in the seasonal program; Waste Management drivers have computers in their vehicles and know all the addresses that are signed up for this service.

2) Pay-Per-Bag sticker system requires the homeowner or resident to purchase stickers from authorized retailers to adhere to each yardwaste bag or container requiring disposal. The cost is $2.70 per sticker and unlimited bags may be placed for pickup.

Plastic Bags & Containers

Plastic bags are strictly prohibited. Yard waste in plastic bags is not accepted in yard waste and compost disposal sites.

Residents using their own containers must clearly mark the containers "yard waste" with letters a minimum four inches high. Containers should be in good shape and have a few small holes in the bottom for drainage.

Do not place yard waste in the dark blue, 96-gallon garbage cart.

Curbside Leaf Collection

Curbside Leaf Collection has resumed and the schedule is now available.

Burning Yard Waste is Prohibited

Per City ordinance, the open burning of leaves, brush, trimmings from trees or bushes, paper, garbage, refuse, waste, or other combustible material on any property, public or private, within the City limits is prohibited. (Chapter 10, Section 10-8)
